A Memorable 30th Wedding Anniversary Stay - We recently stayed at Mantra Mackay Harbour for an overnight break to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and the experience was wonderful from start to finish.
Originally, we had planned... read more to enjoy dinner at Latitude 21 Bar & Restaurant, and after deciding we wanted a long, relaxed evening without worrying about going home, we booked a night at the Mantra as well. I’ve already reviewed Latitude 21 separately, and it truly deserves its praise—10 out of 10 and absolutely phenomenal. If you’re reading this, I highly recommend checking out that review as well.
From arrival, the experience was seamless. Check in was quick and easy, and the staff member who assisted us, John, was fantastic: friendly, welcoming, and genuinely warm. It set the tone immediately.
Our room was exactly what you want to walk into during a Mackay summer—clean, tidy, and beautifully cool, with the air conditioning already on. We stayed in a spa suite, which, while not inexpensive, was a conscious choice to mark such a special milestone for us. It was worth every cent.
I won’t go into detail, but there was a small issue related to something that was meant to be in the room for our anniversary. What I will say is that the way management handled it was exceptional. The professionalism, care, and effort shown deserve real commendation. It was resolved beautifully, and it in no way detracted from our stay—in fact, it reinforced how much the team genuinely cares about guest experience. I can’t thank them enough.
The suite itself was quiet and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, and the pillows were lovely—always a bonus. Everything felt calm and restful, especially when looking out over the beautiful Mackay Harbour, and we truly enjoyed the space.
If I were to mention one minor issue, purely on a personal note, it would be the shower water pressure, which left a little to be desired. That said, it’s a very small point and certainly not something that would deter us from staying again.
Check out was just as pleasant as check in, with staff once again friendly and welcoming.
It’s almost a shame that we live in Mackay, as it’s not somewhere we can escape to for a weekend away—but it’s definitely on the list for the occasional staycation. While future overnight stays may be fewer, what will certainly happen is that we’ll be returning semi regularly to enjoy the restaurant and bar.
Every staff member we encountered was unbelievable, and the overall experience was truly impressive. I don’t know how many stars I could give, but it would be a lot.

The process of checking in and out was straightforward and hassle-free. I appreciated the efficiency and simplicity, which contributed to a positive start and end to my visit.

The room was spacious and offered a comfortable environment for my stay. It met my expectations in terms of size and comfort, adding to the overall satisfaction of my time at the hotel.

They kept the kitchen open when we all arrived back late from a conference and made sure we could all get our breakfast orders done so we could get out on time. The food is seriously also worth a mention, it was fantastic. Fresh fish, house made curry. The others in our group said the same thing of their dishes. Rooms were clean and comfortable but it was the service that really impressed. Thanks for looking after us so well.
